Denise King

Our talented director, Denise King, has been part of the Sweet Adeline world since she was a young child.  Her first exposure to barbershop style came through her mother, Frances Mae Opperman, who sang tenor with the Yucca Chapter of Sweet Adelines in Albuquerque.  Denise spent many years behind the scenes watching her mother enjoy this great “way of life” just waiting until she could become a member.  This dream was realized in 1971.  Enamored with this organization, Denise was determined to learn more about everything, and became involved with choreography, personal voice lessons, quartet singing, and assistant directing.

In 1991 she became our director.  Denise passionately believes an individual’s musical growth through education never ends – there will always be more to learn!  She has pursued this belief not only for her own personal growth, but for the members of our chorus through participation at International Directors’ Seminars, International Educational Symposiums, International Conventions and Regional Educational Seminars.  She was elected to serve two terms as the Directors’ Coordinator on Region 21’s Management Team, which allowed her to share her musical direction and administrative talents on behalf of our organization in support of all directors in our region. This dedication and drive together with the commitment of our chorus resulted in Denise achieving Master Director Status in 2005 in Sweet Adelines International.

In her personal pursuit to become a better singer and to share what she has learned with our chorus, Denise sang baritone with One Voice quartet, our 2007 and 2010 Region 21 Championship Quartet, and also sings bass with Glitz quartet.

Fortunately for us, Denise is married to a very generous man, Paul Arsenault, who, together with their son Jesse, supports her love of music in every way.

Denise brings her vibrant, energetic attitude and nurturing ways to every rehearsal – forever coaching vocal production and barbershop technique.  The Enchanted Mesa Show Chorus is fortunate to have Denise King as their music director for over 20 years.  We receive the gift and thrill of making musical magic together!
